Indigenous lives matter

In the wake of 2020 there have been outcries for social justice around the world, the lives of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada are no exception. Canada as a country is built off of the systemic oppression of the First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples that resided on the land which settlers claimed. The continuation of such discrimination, assimilation and maltreatment of the First Peoples on this land can go on no longer.

Getting Started

Don't know how to help? Here are some organizations committed to the active funding, justice and preservation of Indigenous lives as well as official government of Canada background information.

About

My name is Ocean Lewis and I am entering Mcgill University as a full-time student. I am a half Ojibwe woman and for years I have sat still learning, listening and actively involved or aware of the constant racism spread towards the people of my cultural and ethnic background. My goal in life is to live it my own way and also educate those on the effects of inter-generational trauma, systematic oppression and cultural assimilation has had on my family, my peers and myself. I wish to embrace the future and be my truest self in a free world, not a safe-guarded prision where such figures in power of Canadian government continue to walk uneducated, apathetic and unconcerned for the wellbeing of the Indigenous population in its entirety.

Mission

As a student who has studied in depth the Ojibwe Language, history and culture as well as the studies of Indigenous peoples in Canada with planned continued learning in post-secondary, I am posting links to other resources to better help educate, serve justice and provide healing towards Indigenous individuals and allies of the movement.
